Work in UK
Working in the UK is divided under work during the period of the course and working after the completion of the course.

Working during the duration of the course
Students in the UK are allowed to work part time during term time and full time during vacations.

Students are allowed to work 20 hours a week when they have regular classes and students can earn anything from GBP 5.20 per hour to around GBP 9 an hour depending on the kind of job procured. Further details on the types of jobs available for students can be found through several websites. On average students would earn anything between GBP 500 to 800 a month on part time work thus helping them to pay for the total cost of living every month.

During vacations students have an opportunity to work full time thus allowing them to earn much higher. Students can earn around GBP 800 to GBP 10000 during these times.
This would further help them to contribute towards recovering their fees.

Work can be found through websites, college notice boards and by physically posting resumes at stores. For further details on part time work in the UK.
Working in the UK on completion of the Course
Students on successful completion of the course in the UK can apply for further permission to stay and work full time under various schemes thus allowing them to gain further work experience.

At present, students who successfully complete a UG or a PG Degree can stay and work upto 2 years under the POST STUDY WORK SCEHEME. Students can apply for PSW without even having a job offer on hand. Once they get a job, they can then switch to other categories of visas such as Highly Skilled Migration or Work Permits through the New Point Based System.
What is the post-study worker category?
The post-study worker category allows UK to retain the most able international graduates who have studied in the United Kingdom. It also enhances the United Kingdom's overall offer to international students.

Post-study workers are free to look for work without having a sponsor for the length of their leave.

The category provides a bridge to highly skilled or skilled work. If you are granted permission to stay as a post-study worker, we expect that you will switch into another tier of the points-based system as soon as you are able to.
Who can apply as a post-study worker?
One can apply under the post-study worker category if  you are:
  1. in the United Kingdom with permission to stay under the Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme (SEGS), International Graduates Scheme (IGS) or Fresh Talent: Working in Scotland Scheme (FT:WISS); or
  2. in the United Kingdom as a student, which includes students, student nurses, students resitting examinations, and students writing up a thesis, and want to switch into the post-study worker category.
